AWAKE AT 3 AM

AWAKE AT 3 AM

I crave background noise
3 a.m. radio goes on
Oh no, opera!

No problem tonight with sleeping I would imagine. I usually have trouble falling asleep and turn the radio on for background noise. To the classical station. And usually, sooner or later, opera comes on. Aarrgg. But I have a feeling that tonight will be easy.

It was cooking day again!!! Yea!

Becky and I, more Becky, cook once a week for 6 people for a week. She does the major stuff. I sit and chop stuff. I'm getting really good at dicing peppers and shredding cabbage and lettuces. We pick out a variety of meals depending what is on sale. Becky checks the papers for sales and i try to plan meals around sale items.

Her and Frank (son in law) shop on Saturdays at Costco and Fresh Farms (an incredible supermarket). Usually we cook on mondays, but sometimes not. Today was a not. Anyhow, Frank pays for the groceries, which helps us as I am on disability now, and hubby works very part time. Frank and Rachel work long hours at their job, and used to come home and eat frozen dinners or order in and wanted home cooked food with out the home cooking. (who doesn't)

So then Becky and I cook. Well, she cooks, I chop. Usually it is 1-2 servings of a particular meal per person. Stuff like chili, is usually 2 servings. Stuff like meatloaf will be one serving. We cook, put into containers and frigerate or freeze until we can get them their food. They wash out the containers and return them to be refilled.

Friend M, who also works a lot of hours, has been living on fast food and frozen dinners. So now, he's joined in our little circle of food. (he kicks in $ towards the cost/labor of the meals). It works out well and we all eat healthier.

But it is exhausting. I at least get to sit down. Becky is on her feet a lot and is really tired. But at the end of the day, we've got a nice store of food.

Nothing special about it really. I'm just saying.....when my head hits the pillow tonight and the radio goes on, well, bring it on, fat lady! I'm going to sleep.
