AWAKE AT 3 AM

AWAKE AT 3 AM

I crave background noise
3 a.m. radio goes on
Oh no, opera!

No problem tonight with sleeping I would imagine. I usually have trouble falling asleep and turn the radio on for background noise. To the classical station. And usually, sooner or later, opera comes on. Aarrgg. But I have a feeling that tonight will be easy.

It was cooking day again!!! Yea!

Becky and I, more Becky, cook once a week for 6 people for a week. She does the major stuff. I sit and chop stuff. I'm getting really good at dicing peppers and shredding cabbage and lettuces. We pick out a variety of meals depending what is on sale. Becky checks the papers for sales and i try to plan meals around sale items.

Her and Frank (son in law) shop on Saturdays at Costco and Fresh Farms (an incredible supermarket). Usually we cook on mondays, but sometimes not. Today was a not. Anyhow, Frank pays for the groceries, which helps us as I am on disability now, and hubby works very part time. Frank and Rachel work long hours at their job, and used to come home and eat frozen dinners or order in and wanted home cooked food with out the home cooking. (who doesn't)

So then Becky and I cook. Well, she cooks, I chop. Usually it is 1-2 servings of a particular meal per person. Stuff like chili, is usually 2 servings. Stuff like meatloaf will be one serving. We cook, put into containers and frigerate or freeze until we can get them their food. They wash out the containers and return them to be refilled.

Friend M, who also works a lot of hours, has been living on fast food and frozen dinners. So now, he's joined in our little circle of food. (he kicks in $ towards the cost/labor of the meals). It works out well and we all eat healthier.

But it is exhausting. I at least get to sit down. Becky is on her feet a lot and is really tired. But at the end of the day, we've got a nice store of food.

Nothing special about it really. I'm just saying.....when my head hits the pillow tonight and the radio goes on, well, bring it on, fat lady! I'm going to sleep.

blog restarted

Only words, haikus
can't figure out anything
no more photographs.

Ok, so not the most brilliant haiku, and only on a high school level. but it's the restart of tying a haiku rather than a rant/essay/whatever.

Decided not to devote this to rants. too undisciplined. so back to haikus. if i can figure out how to do the photos again, i will add them. but for some reason I couldn't get them into the blog, and then just gave up writing. being somewhat of a luddite, i frustrate easily with technology acting capricious.

Couple of things going on that caused me to stop. My mom's pancreatic cancer was the main one. After the initial diagnosis, the shock to her and dad and me and Sue took up a lot of energy. And having to deal with the two prodigal kids made it harder. Mom's not gotten better, and seems worse to my eyes. She goes on though. But we all know what is happening and what is coming.

Another thing is the absolute sh-- that losing my job did to my self worth and head. I didn't really think it would effect me that much. But the way it happened, the why (and piss poor "reason" the simon legree boss gave), and then the reaction , or rather lack of it, from my former co-workers was like a giant cosmic kick in the head. It's taken awhile to regain an even keel.

And frankly, it's this or clean the house.

So if you like what you read, subscribe and you'll get more. If you don't, well, ok too.

Later.

ENTROPY

ENTROPY

AFTER HOUSE CLEANING

I REST; BEFORE MY OWN EYES

ENTROPY ENTERS

I don't do housework well. Just enough to stay healthy. Never understood the reason to make the bed in the morning. seldom do. ok never do.

I wash dishes when it's needed, and the floors are swept and mopped as needed. And i view dust as a protective covering for the furniture.

I have done the housekeeping thing in the past. Had a couple of levels of cleaning. normal, or the bare minimum. Company--friend-- coming meant sweep, clear off the seats etc. Mom coming--sweep, mop, dust, put away stuff. Mother in Law coming: all the previous plus cleaning out cabinets and organizing the pantry.

But not so much lately. Far too tired. and don't see the point as i seldom have company. the kitchen is clean. of course the kitchen is new. the living room is as neat as it's going to get.

but i noticed that when i do clean, entropy sneaks in and poof! within 24 hours, it's back to pre cleanin stages.

sigh.
